Santa Quiteria

Weigand's map of the site

Santa Quiteria is one of the largest Teuchitlan tradition centers, second only in size and volumetric concentration to the major Guachimonton site. It lies in the far northeastern part of the Tequila valleys, somewhat isolated from the main concentration of settlement. Whether this means it may have been politically independent of Teuchitlan-Guachimonton or not remains unclear.

The site was heavily damaged in 1993 when local farmers used a tractor to demolish the western third of the site, destroying everything west of the largest circle at the site. To the east is the largest ballcourt in western Mexico, and apparently second in length only to the huge ballcourt at Chichen Itza.
