UCD AES Denver Student Section

The Audio Engineering Society is an international professional organization, and is the only professional society devoted exclusively to Audio technology. Its worldwide membership includes engineers, scientists, executives, educators, and students, involved in every aspect of the audio industry. The AES promotes advances in audio technology through annual technical meetings and exhibitions of professional equipment, and through the "Journal of the Audio Engineering Society", the proffesional archival publication in the audio industry.

We are fortunate to have a student section of the Audio Engineering Society here at UCD; one of only 20 AES student sections in the world. Through membership in the AES, we have access to oppurtunities and invaluable resources that would not otherwise available. The National AES Headquarters provides our student section with funding to promote activities such as this newsletter, bringing in Audio Professionals as guest speakers, tours of local Audio production facilities, and many other valuable experiences.

The UCD Audio Engineering Society holds monthly meetings here on campus, and (whenever possible) at local professional audio production facilities. Meetings may also include guest speakers from all facets of the audio industry. Monthly meetings provide a chance for members to exchange ideas with other students and professionals within our audio community. Meetings involve discussion and planning of activities such as tours, guest speaker invitation; and anouncement of local and outside engineering opportunities.

Membership is just $35.00 for an entire year and includes many benifits. Members recieve a ten issue per year subsrciption to "The Journal of the Audio Engineering Society" (the professional publication of the Audio industry). Additionaly, the AES publishes a directory of all members nationwide. This can be a valuable link to industry professionals, and is available only to AES members.

UCD Audio Engineering Program SPARS Membership

The UCD Music Engineering Program also maintains an active membership in SPARS, the Society of Professional Audio Recording Services. SPARS membership is held by major Audio industry businesses nationwide, many of which offer internship programs to students of engineering programs who also hold SPARS mebership (such as ours). SPARS has also funded student travel to various conventions around the country. Two of our own UCD students were fortunate enough to recive funds to travel to the SPARS Business Convention in L.A. this last summer, and four UCD Music Engineering students were recipients of SPARS Student Travel Grants for travel to the 99th Annual AES Convention in New York this October. Our membership in SPARS has provided students with otherwise unatainable opportunities, and we are very grateful.
