Administration, Supervision, and
Curriculum Development (ASCD) - Description

The primary responsibility of the ASCD faculty is to prepare leaders for public education in Colorado and the nation. Currently, the Administrator or Principal Professional License is required for people seeking building-level positions in Colorado.

The ASCD faculty offers a Master's and Educational Specialist in addition to the program for Administrator and Principal License. There is also an ASCD emphasis area, Educational Administration and Policy, in the new Ph.D. program in Educational Leadership and Innovation.

The programs leading to the Administrator or Principal License requires 27 graduate credit hours, including an internship. The M.A. degree program requires 36 semester hours total, plus a portfolio or a four hour comprehensive examination. The Ed.S. degree program is available for those who already hold an M.A. degree and who seek a Colorado Administrator or Principle License or a specialized prgram. Ed.S. candidates must complete the 27 credit hours for the licensing program, plus 9 additional credit hours. They must also complete a portfolio or a 12-hour written comprehensive examination.
