Brigadier General Rodgers Scholarship for Geography Majors As a result of a generous fund established by Mrs. Rodgers in honor of her late husband Brigadier General William M. Rodgers, a former instructor in our department, the Department of Geography, Geology, and Environmental Sciences awards up to two $1000 scholarships each fall for geography majors. Welcome to Our Newest Faculty Member Dr. Rafael Moreno joined our faculty this fall and makes a wonderful addition to our department. Dr. Moreno obtained his Ph.D. from the School of Natural Resources at Colorado State University in 1992. His vast experience in geographic information systems and natural resource management complements and strengthens our current concentrations in geo-technologies and environmental studies.
Grand Re-Opening of Tracking Dinosaurs Exhibit, Fall, 2003 Over the summer, the dinosaur museum was renovated! This exhibit is a version of the internationally acclaimed Tracking Dinosaurs Exhibit created and maintained by CU Denver students and faculty, which has been on tour in Asia, Europe and North America since 1991. Come and see what a million people have seen in seven countries on three continents during the last decade. The UCD exhibit is located in the basement of St Cajetan's Church on the Auraria campus and is now open 12:00-2:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and.... THE EXHIBIT IS FREE. Dr. Wes LeMasurier Retires Dr. LeMasurier contributed nearly his entire career to building the University of Colorado at Denver. He established geology on this campus and taught numerous geology classes, training an entire generation of students. In addition, he was also well known for his research on volcanoes in Antarctica and participated in several Antarctic expeditions. While we will miss him, we wish him the best as he embarks on this new phase of his life.
Two New Options in Geography We now have two exciting new options available to geography majors: Environmental Studies and Urban Studies. The Environmental Studies Option gives students the opportunity to focus on environmental issues from a social science perspective. The Urban Studies Option provides an mechanism for students to concentrate on urban and regional planning issues. Further, those students completing the requirements for an this option may also be eligible to pursue an accelerated Masters of Urban and Regional Planning degree here at UCD.
Urban and Regional Planning Minor Introduced In addition to the two new options within geography, all UCD students now have the option to pursue a minor in urban and regional planning.
