Prizes to innovative students who are learning and working with
information
technology. Advertising and rewarding student success is important.
Earth Day is April 22nd. Here's a simple,
collaborative activity that involves students in their community, and it's
not language-dependent.

Diversity of Life project: ROCKY LITTORAL MARITIME
AQUATIC ECOSYSTEM
A well constructed collaborative project, originating in Portugal -
multidisciplinary. However! The originating website -- not this
invitation -- is in Portuguese. So apparently communication in other
languages takes place directly, through email. LEVEL OF TEACHING:
Students involved in the project are in the 12th form of
Natural-Scientific Area. Age: 17 The project can be of interest and be
integrated in other levels of teaching, from the 7th to 12th forms. Ages:
From 13 to 18. Registration of the participant schools until 31.March.97.
A report will be issued at completion of the project.
Beginning April 15th, log on to NOVA/PBS
ONLINE for its latest real time adventure, Alive on Everest: The Story
of Humans at Altitude.

- Better Students Through
Technology Report "The Role of Online Communications in Schools: A
National Study" is a report of a study conducted by CAST (Center for
Applied Special Technology), an independent research and development
organization, and sponsored by the Scholastic Network and Council of the
Great City Schools. Results show significantly higher scores on
measurements of information management, communication, and presentation of
ideas for experimental groups with online access than for control groups
with no online access.
