Exit RequirementsWhat do I need to do to receive certification? In general, if you take two classes per semester, the program takes two-and-a-half years to complete. If you take one class per semester, you can complete the program in four years. How long can I take to complete the program? The university permits up to seven years to complete a degree program from the time you are officially admitted (as long as you maintain a grade point average of 3.0 and take at least three courses each calendar year) without skipping two semesters in a row. Do I have to take the PLACE test?Although the PLACE test is not necessary in order to fulfill exit requirements for the Library Media program, you must pass the PLACE test in Library Media in order to receive a Colorado Library Media Endorsement. This is a Colorado Department of Education requirement. What else do I need to do in order to graduate? You will need to complete a Master's Project as well as a Master's Portfolio if you are working toward a Library Media master's degree. You will also need to complete and submit graduation paperwork by deadlines set by the School of Education (see details below). What is the Master's Project? The Master's Project is completed during your Field Experience or Internship. This project provides you a chance to synthesize your learning experiences in the ILT program, as well as providing an authentic way to assess your instruction technology skills. This project is equivalent to a comprehensive exam, and should be of appropriate scope. Typically, projects are negotiated with your advisor, who will make sure that the project meets the criteria, as well as making sure you don't bite off more than you can chew. In general, projects should represent three semester credit hours, or at least 90 total work hours. View the Master's Project guidelines for more details. What is the Portfolio? The Master's Portfolio is the capstone of your ILT Program, and is completed in your last semester. It allows you to bring the many projects together into a format which you can proudly show to current and prospective employers. The portfolio is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your ability to apply skills and knowledge in the rapidly growing field of learning technologies. If you are a licensed teacher, your portfolio can become the basis for your state-mandated teacher portfolio. The portfolio is turned in and reviewed by the ILT faculty during the semester in which you intend to graduate. In order to graduate, you must receive a "pass" on the portfolio.
