LOCATION

Galway, located on the west coast of Ireland, enjoys easy access to many points of interest. The city is home to many cultural delights, including Ireland's first Gaelic Theatre, a city-wide horse-racing festival, and the little-known, but immensely popular Galway Arts Festival.

TEACHING METHODS

Lectures, seminars, dramatic performances, guided tours, and informed contact with the music, language, and the people of Ireland will constitute your learning experience. One textbook, published by Barnes & Noble, Irish Studies: A General Introduction, is recommended. Galway's origins are shrouded in mythology: legend has it the city was founded by a Celtic king who was grief-stricken when his daughter drowned in the Corrib River. Unable to move on, the mourning king camped permanently on the shore where she drowned. The camp, we're told, is present-day Galway.
