Last summer, a park in Olathe, Colorado received an entry kiosk/information center and pavilion, thanks to 20 architecture students participating in the Pavilion in the Park program.
Phillip Gallegos, associate professor of architecture at CU-Denver, started the program in 1989. He and his students have completed seven "designed and build" projects in parks and schools throughout Colorado. Recipients of these unique structures are Palisade, Pueblo, Fruita, Bennett, Dolores and Bergen Meadow.
The city of Olathe, located just south of Grand Junction, chose a design submitted by the CU-Denver students in March, and the actual construction of the two-week project was done in August. Each year, numerous communities make requests to CU-Denver's Pavilion in the Park program.
