Yuk Lee, professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Colorado at Denver's College of Architecture and Planning, has published a paper titled "Highway Network Connectivity, Traffic Flow Pattern, and Economic Development of China's Hainan Island," in Asian Geographer, Volume 17. The paper is an analysis of Hainan's highway network connectivity and nodal accessibility from the pre-1949 period to the present, and the bus passenger traffic and freight traffic flow pattern of 1986. On the basis of the analysis results, Lee makes several suggestions regarding the role of Hainan's highway system in the island's economic development.
Herman Aguinis, associate professor of management at CU-Denver's College of Business and Administration and director of the Master of Science in Management Program, has been appointed associate editor for the scholarly journal, Organizational Research Methods (ORM). The Academy of Management (Research Methods Division) sponsors ORM. Its editorial board includes some of the most prestigious methodologists in management, applied psychology, and related fields. In addition, Aguinis has been appointed to the National Advisory Board for the Center for the Advancement of Research Methods and Analysis (School of Business, Virginia Commonwealth University.
Willard Chappell, physics professor at CU-Denver and director of the Master of Science in Environmental Sciences program, gave a presentation, "Concerns Regarding Elevated Arsenic Concentrations in Irrigation Water," at the International Workshop on Control of Arsenic Contamination in Ground Water held in Calcutta, India on Jan. 5-6. The Public Health Engineering Department of the Government of West Bengal sponsored the workshop. Chappell also visited Thailand, India and Bangladesh, where he conferred with various officials about the arsenic problems in those countries. Chappell is organizing the 4th International Conference on Arsenic Exposure and Health Effects, which will be held in San Diego, July 18-22.
