DENVER - This Spring 1,425 undergraduate and graduate students will receive degrees at the University of Colorado at Denver. The commencement ceremony will be held outdoors at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 13 at the Auraria field on Speer Blvd. and Larimer Street. No alternate sites are planned in the event of inclement weather.
The University will confer a Doctor of Humane Letters degree, a University of Colorado Medal, two Alumni Appreciation Awards, three Alumni Leadership Awards, an Alumni Mack Easton Award, and two Alumni Recognition Awards.
John A. Murphy, who has been enthusiastically committed to educating all people about Coloradošs geology and preserving Coloradošs geologic legacy, will receive the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.
Shirley White Johnston, a long-time faculty member at CU-Denver who has devoted many years of exemplary service to CU-Denver and made many specific contributions to the betterment of the University, will receive the University of Colorado Medal.
B. Thomas Arneberg, former CU and CU-Denver faculty member who has made significant contributions to the field of mechanical engineering, will receive the Alumni Appreciation Award.
Albert W. Knott, well respected as a civil engineer who has had many personal involvements with the University, namely his tireless support of the College of Engineering, will receive the Alumni Appreciation Award.
Carol Heller, director of CU-Denveršs Alumni Relations, who has worked with alumni board members and helped bring the Alumni Association from its infancy to its current level of activity, will receive an Alumni Leadership Award.
Walter Isenberg and Scott Stewart, CEOs of Denver corporations who have made a significant impact on the faculty and students of CU-Denveršs College of Arts & Media, also will receive Alumni Leadership Awards.
John D. Anderson, a 73-year-old architect who is a leader in his profession and in the community and who has influenced CU-Denveršs College of Architecture and Planning, will receive the Alumni Mack Easton Award.
Ellen K. Fisher, a prominent historian and a voice for innovation in the history department at CU-Denver, and Mary J. Gearhart, a leader in environmental engineering and in civic and professional organizations, will receive Alumni Recognition Awards.
