DENVER - The University of Colorado Board of Regents today (April 20) approved the appointment of Sueann Ambron as dean of the College of Business and Administration at the University of Colorado at Denver, effective July 1.
Margaret "Midge" Cozzens, vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at CU-Denver and to whom Ambron will report, said the University is fortunate to have hired someone of Ambron's caliber.
"She brings a wealth of experience in creative and entrepreneurial leadership to CU-Denver and will prove to be a tremendous asset to the University and business community," Cozzens said.
Ambron said she is eager to begin her new position.
"I look forward to being a catalyst at the College of Business and Administration at CU-Denver to move in new directions to meet the increasing demands of business for better trained, more technically aware adaptable business professionals," Ambron said. "I expect to achieve this goal working with the students, faculty, business community and government."
As the new business dean, Ambron will spend much of her time in the business community developing partnerships for CU-Denver and on increasing the resources available to the College, Cozzens said. Jean Claude Bosch, who has served as interim dean and now will become Dean of Faculty and Executive Associate Dean of the College, will assist her.
"Together they will make a powerful team that will position CU-Denver's College of Business and Administration among the premier urban colleges in the country," Cozzens said.
Ambron has varied experience in the business arena as well as in academia. Most recently she was president and CEO of Avulet, Inc. in Sunnyvale, California. Founded by Ambron in 1998, Avulet is a company that delivers internet-based Network Equipment Remote Lab Services providing hands-on access, expert archives and value-added services for telecom and datacom companies. Avulet works in partnership with Cisco Systems, Inc. Ambron stepped down as CEO last January to relocate to the Denver area.
Prior to founding Avulet, Ambron was vice president and general manager for the Multimedia Services Division of Motorola, Inc. She also was president of Online Services, executive vice president for interactive services of US WEST, and executive vice president for Viacom Interactive Media division for Viacom/Paramount in New York City.
In addition to her experience in business, Ambron also taught at Stanford University for nearly ten years. While at Stanford, she wrote two best-selling college textbooks.
Ambron holds a doctorate in education from Columbia University, a master's degree from Michigan State University, and a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland.
In 1994, Wired Magazine highlighted Ambron as the Mother of Multimedia for her work in developing the Media Kitchen at Apple, where she worked from 1984 to 1992 and her move to Viacom/Paramount.
