Unit 7 Overview
Racial, Ethnic and Gender Inequality

Unit 7: In this unit I will spend some time on race and inequality based on race. The first thing to get in mind is that race is an unpopular term, one that has had many meanings and is currently in dispute. Anthropoligists will argue that races do not exist -- they are correct so long as we limit the argument to physical bases of race. However, from the sociological point of view race is a socially defined term and in that sense has a great deal of meaning and power in today's America. This unit explores how the term is used and some of the consequences of that use.
