Unit 11: Of all the statuses that we occupy in the modern world none is more important than our work role. That work role is predicated on the kind and amount of education we have. In this unit we examine the nature of work and how education feeds that structure. In the notes I have chosen to focus primarily on education since this is where all of us are today. It is also one of the very important institutions that goes a long way to shaping who and what we are after our families. In this unit you will learn about tracking, about status attainment and about academic freedom.
