All prospective majors should contact the Major Advisor as soon as they declare Sociology as their major and as early in their academic career as possible. Transfer and returning students should consult with the Major Advisor the first semester they enroll at UCD. All majors are required to discuss completion of the core courses with the Major Advisor.
In cooperation with Arapahoe Community College, the Community Colleges of Denver and Aurora, the department accepts transfers to a Major in Sociology from their paralegal certificate programs. Students transferring under this agreement must talk with the Sociology Major Advisor about the specifics of this agreement and the completion of the degree in Sociology. See Paralegal Program Transfer Policy for requirements.
Students wishing to graduate with departmental honors (cum laude, magna cum laude, or summa cum laude) must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and a minimum GPA of 3.2 in Sociology courses. Information on the specific requirements are available in the Department of Sociology or you can click here to read the requirements. Qualified students are encouraged to apply for the Honors Program no later than the first semester of their senior year.
