Overall, however, the study showed that the masonry of the original structure and the subsequent heightenings is in reasonably safe and sound condition. While it has born the considerable effects of the Nile, Old Aswan Dam has successfully stood the test of time. (Novokshchenov, 1997)
Of course, as with all great technological achievements there were negative effects of the dam as well. Sir William Willcocks, however, built the Low Aswan with the best interests of nature and agriculture at heart.
This point is contrasted by the environmental effects of the High Aswan Dam. Manipulating Nile Flow Data, Murdoch MacDonald created The High Aswan Dam in such a way that it prevented the silt from flowing down stream. As a result, soil along the Nile river was denied a natural source of fertility, forcing the areas into less natural methods. Today, these areas are some of the largest consumers of chemical fertilizer in the world.
