Constitution of The University of Colorado, Denver Turkish Student Association
Preamble Turkish Student Association of Denver abbreviated by TUSAD, do hereby establish this referred Constitution in order that our purpose be realized to its fullest extent.
Article I - Name The name of the organization will be Turkish Student Association of Denver, henceforth referred to as Turkish Student Association of Denver.
Article II - Purpose TUSAD will serve the following purposes: TUSAD is established for bringing people with interest in the Turkish culture together. TUSAD will organize and fund activities to create occasions in which people can exchange their ideas and thereby raise a public awareness on the contemporary issues related to Turkiye and the World. TUSAD will cooperate with other organizations in the campus to contribute to the efforts on inter-cultural understanding and diversity initiative. TUSAD will facilitate the communication of its members with other Turkish Student Associations in the US and it will participate in the organization of joint activities. TUSAD will provide support to its current and prospective members, and help them to overcome the problems they may face during their adaptation to a new culture and a new educational environment. TUSAD understands and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities of abiding by the University of Colorado, Denver policies.
Article III - Membership The association does have two categories of membership : Full member and associate member. Full membership shall be limited to persons officially connected with the University of Colorado, Denver as faculty, staff or registered students. In addition the following requirements are necessary to constitute full membership: Payment which must be paid by deadline of each semester, in full of financial obligations as determined by organization. Deadline is determined by TUSAD. Active participation in all activities sponsored by the TUSAD unless the activity interferes with either scholastic or economic affairs. Others who are not eligible for full membership can be a part of TUSAD by being an associate member. Associate members cannot vote in any decision process and cannot be elected as an officer. Associate members shall pay in full of financial obligations as determined by TUSAD. TUSAD does not discriminate people on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, nationality, disability or veteran status.
Article IV - Officers TUSAD will be governed by the following means: An elected President will preside at all meetings of the TUSAD. The President will maintain the power to appoint all committee chairpersons, shall present all motions to the body present. Full members shall also elect a Vice President who shall preside at all meetings that the president cannot attend. The vice president will handle new membership applications, rule observances at stated meetings, protocols, meeting reports and meeting announcements. Full members shall also select a Treasurer who will handle all dues, accounts and the budget of TUSAD on behalf of the President.
Article V - Operations Voting Eligibility Those members who satisfy all the requirements of full membership as set forth in Article III will be granted voting privileges. Election Process Only full members of the association who have been members at least two months, are eligible to vote and to be nominated for an officer position. All officers shall be elected by a majority vote at the meeting in which two out of three of the number of full members of TUSAD are participated. If two out of three the full members are not available in the first meeting, the election will be repeated in two weeks with only available full members of second meeting. If a majority vote can not be reached, the election will be repeated for the second time within two weeks where only the two candidates that had the highest votes in the first election will be eligible for the candidacy. The candicate who has the higher vote will be elected for the position. All elections will be held on an annual basis. If an officer leaves his position, an election will take place in the next meeting for that open position. A full member appointed by the President will take the duties of the removed officer until a new officer is elected. If the removed officer is the President, then the Vice President will take the duties. All voting shall be done by closed ballot to be collected and tabulated by the Secretary and one full member of the TUSAD appointed by the outgoing President. Removal Any officer of TUSAD in violation of the Organization's purpose or constitution, may be removed from office by the following process: A written request by at least seven full members of the Organization. Written notification to the officer of the request, asking the officer to be present at the next meeting and prepared to speak. The notification must be made at least one week before the meeting. A majority vote of all full members is necessary to remove the officer. Meetings All meetings will occur on a monthly basis at a time selected by TUSAD.
Article VI - Finances TUSAD will finance the activities it engages in by the following means: Membership dues (appropriate amount set by TUSAD). Funds raised through activities. Financial support of University of Colorado, Denver
Article VII - Amendments The constitution is binding to all members of TUSAD. But the constitution is binding unto itself. Amendments to the constitution may be proposed in writing by any full member of TUSAD at any meeting at which majority of the full members are present. These amendments will be placed on the agenda for the next regular meeting. Proposed amendments will become effective following approval of the majority vote of full members.
