Several multi-disciplinary labs are available for the USIEP project: The Trans lab is linked to the City and County Traffic Control Center, and provides real-world experience for graduate students working on transportation engineering. The GIS lab called the Facility for Advanced Spatial Analysis (FAST) is a large lab shared with the Geography and Urban Planning programs, thus creating an inter-disciplinary experience for students. The Infrastructure Research Lab is used to stage data capture and processing work for the urban infrastructure research projects. The Geotechnical Research Lab is equipped for a wide variety of soil and rock testing experiments. The Environmental Research lab has innovative experimental set ups for phyto-remediation research. Each of these facilities represents state-of-the-art capabilities for conduct of USIEP research. Faculty also collaborate closely with National Laboratories associated with USEPA (Environmental Protection Agency), USBR (Bureau of Reclamation), NREL (National Renewable Energy Labs).
