Answer key to Exams, Cell Biology 3611
At this point, reread the first 19 pages or so of the Course packet--many students report benefiting from this review.
As noted in the course packet, remember that one of the most effective forms of studying is in a group (there are many benefits to this: further discussion of ideas from lecture, teaching someone helps you really learn a topic, exchange of notes from lecture, etc.)!! I can help you form STUDY GROUPS....see me before or after lecture.
Also, consider TAPING lectures.
Continually TEST yourself (ask yourself made up questions, answer questions from
the lecture and text, --the poorer student first tests himself in the exam!!).
One more hint: RECOPY your "crude" notes taken in lecture before the next
lecture occurs. Many students have said that this really helps!!
Although you can drop one of the first three lecture exams, I suggest that you review all missed exam questions! There is a comprehensive final that may use the question from an earlier exam. Ask yourself why you missed certain questions? Did you ignore certain words, not understand certain words, not complete all the suggested questions from the text before you looked at the answers in the Solutions manual, not apply certain facts from lecture or understand all implications of certain concepts, or did you just not know a certain fact?
If you review your notes/text and still cannot understand the correct answer for an exam, you might first ask those in your study group. Many educators find that student to student discussions can be very valuable. If this does not work or you want more information, ask me!
Exam grading: if there is a concern about incorrect grading, give me the original exam and an attached note (on separate paper) explaining why you believe that the exam was misgraded ("I put down ...and the exam key shows that this answer is correct because....etc). I reserve the right to exam the rest of the exam.
For your score, I assign about 1.5 points per Scantron question (this amount varies from exam to exam), and the points for the written portion are noted with each question. The Scantron reader prints a red number on the right of the Scantron form and this number is multiplied by the ~1.5 pts per question; the product is then placed in the box 1 at the upper right of the Scantron form by the grader. Next, the total points achieved in the written portion is placed in box 2 and the total of these two scores is recorded underneath. My exams typically have a total of 100 points.
