Graduate Course Syllabus



A graduate course for participants of:

TIE Conference
24 - 27 June 2008
Copper Mountain Resort, Colorado
(1 semester credit for 2 days attendance; 2 credits for full conference)


The Technology in Education (TIE) group is holding its annual meeting this year in Copper Mountain, Colorado. Over the years, TIE has become the primary vehicle to help Colorado educators learn more about using technology in their schools. To encourage educators to attend this conference, we are offering continuing education credit for attendance at the conference. The objectives of the course are to help you as a professional educator:

To accomplish these goals, you will need to mindfully and actively participate in the conference. Don't just attend sessions--participate! Ask questions, take notes, think about how the session relates to your teaching needs. If you are assertive in finding information and resources, you will be assured of making your attendance a valuable experience that will enhance your teaching effectiveness.


Instructions for Completion of Course Requirements

Directions are provided below for completing the individualized study required for a grade.

1. When you arrive at the conference, look for the Credits Table near the TIE registration booth. Complete and submit a course registration form. Take home an instruction sheet for completing and submitting coursework (see also below). The cost is $60 per credit. When you register, you will indicate the number of credit hours you wish to sign up for, using the following rule:

2. Keep track of sessions you attend in preparation for writing your report.


3. Complete a reflective essay as your final project.

Your past use of technologies for learning. Trace your professional development in the use of technologies for learning. What changes or accomplishments have you already undertaken? What kinds of obstacles or barriers have you encountered, and how have you addressed them?

Your conference experience. Tell about your experiece at TIE. How did the conference and other professional resources help you improve your effectiveness? What surprised or excited you? Any disappointments?

Returning back to work. What goals to you have as you return back to work? How do you plan to take your new learning and make it fit your work environment and the constraints you face? Reflect on the value of the conference in the context of your professional role and work responsibilities.

Prepare your essay in a word processing, then paste it into the webform at the link below. Complmete a 1000 word report for 2 grad credits or 500 words for 1 grad credit.

4. Complete the online form to submit your work. Teachers seeking CDE recertification units should also go to this website and submit the same work. We must receive your completed work no later than July 15th.
