Individual Roles

At EyeSite, Chris explains, every web site project is handled by four individual roles: Information Architect, Graphics Designer, Programmer, and Content Manager. In addition, there is a project manager, like Chris, that keeps the team on task. Chris tells you that this project will be handled the same way.

The Information Architect designs the navigation for the site and makes the site easy to use.

The Graphics Designer creates or obtains all of the images, giving the site its look and feel.
The Programmer crafts all the code for the site, including back-end database interactions with the server.
The Content Manager researches and writes the text and decides what will be on each web page.

Chris explains that the different roles often overlap. Team members must communicate regularly to make sure each person is staying on track.

Now it's time to meet with your team and decide who will take on what role. Chris says that you may have to share roles if more than four people end up on your team or that some members might have to take on two roles if you end up with less than four people. Teams change--you have to be flexible, but be sure to get the job done!

Once you've decided what role(s) you are going to do, click on the "Team Work" button above on the left to find out how you'll conduct your research for this project.
