Lorraine Sherry:  lorraine.sherry@comcast.net   303-465-4361

Rosemary Fair: rrfair@aol.com   303-316-9606

  1. See the sign-up list and check in with Rosemary or Lorraine to sign up for a report or choose a topic related to one of the six major eras: gardens of antiquity and Islam; Medieval Europe; Renaissance Italy; French and European Baroque; English landscape gardening; or modern and contemporary gardens.

  1. Check the references on the class website, or ask Rosemary for suggestions about relevant books and websites.

  1. If you cannot find materials in your library, you can search for items online in the Prospector catalog.  This is a list of holdings of Colorado and Wyoming public and academic libraries.  Logon to www.denverlibrary.org, and follow these steps:

A home library selection screen will appear

1.      Click on the down arrow to see the drop down list of public and academic libraries

2.      Choose a library (e.g., “Denver Public”) where you would like the book delivered

3.      Click on: “Submit above information”

4.      A list of branches of the library system you selected appears.  That is where you select the branch to which you want your materials sent for pickup.

  1. You will want to order your books soon, as you may have to wait a week or more before they are ready for pickup. You can usually extend the borrowing time for an additional three week period when you check the book out, giving you a 6 week loan.  If you need help with this, contact Rosemary Fair.  The Central branch of the Denver Public Library (Broadway and 13th Avenue) has an extensive collection of books on gardens.

  1. If you are a member of the Denver Botanic Gardens, you may check items out of their Helen Fowler Library.  You may view the library catalog by logging on to www.botanicgardens.org, clicking on “Library," and then clicking on “Library Catalog” in the drop down menu.

  1. You can prepare your report either using PowerPoint or overhead transparencies.  You can make black & white transparencies at the OLLI office.  Call the office before you go there to get assistance.  The least expensive place that you can make color transparencies is Kinko’s on East Second Avenue.  Tell them you are in the World Gardens class at OLLI.  Total cost is $2.50 per transparency.  If you have any problems making overheads, call Rosemary.

  1. If you plan to use PowerPoint, please check with Lorraine so that you will know how to connect and use the OLLI computer and LCD projector for your presentation.  Bring your presentation to class on a CD-ROM or your own laptop computer – whichever is more comfortable for you.
