Dr. Lawyer-Brook brings to her position a dedication to improve education as well as a rich background in the areas of educational telecommunications, computer-assisted instruction, bilingual/multicultural education, federal programs, teacher training, and curriculum development.
Supervising a number of distance education pilots for students in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and France, her responsibilities included, project development, training personnel, supervising subcontractors, helping to develop new curricula, obtaining community support, and evaluating program and student outcomes. Dr. Lawyer-Brook currently is evaluating an international interactive television project that links a consortium of schools in southwest Kansas with schools in Paris, France. The schools are sharing a geography research class that explores global themes. She is also evaluating; a project that uses telecommunications to support teachers nationwide in math and science, an Internet implementation model for school districts, and a regional systemic initiative for reform in math and science.
Dr. Lawyer-Brook has disseminated information about the uses of technology in education throughout the Rocky Mountain region. She developed curriculum materials and evaluation tools in this area while teaching children and teachers in a computer lab setting. While serving as a member of the Rural Technical Assistance Center, she has continued to develop materials and tools for the nine state region, as well as conduct hands-on workshops for state and local staffs. She created a dissemination plan for international at-risk case studies using current technologies for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. She is a frequent contributor to state and educational national technology conferences.
With extensive experience in multicultural education, Dr. Lawyer-Brook taught elementary children in Mexico and conducted several research projects including a needs assessment of the bilingual American schools in Mexico and an ethnographic study examining tourism and education. At the University of Colorado, she worked with the BUENO office assisting with grant writing, instructing graduate classes, and designing a career counseling class for minority students. She has served on the Board of the Colorado Association for Bilingual Education and received a bilingual research fellowship at the University of Colorado. She has also provided consultation to a private firm, engaged in helping prepare corporate families for residence in foreign countries.
Dr. Lawyer-Brook received a B.S. in Education; an M.A. in Education, and a Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis on multicultural foundations.

Project Director/Evaluator, French Connection, Kansas Enhancement Grant. Designed, supervised and evaluated an international education project that linked rural Kansas secondary students and their geography teachers with their counterparts in Paris, France. Conducted both formative and summative evaluation for this demonstration model. Plans are being made for continuing the project and expanding the model to other countries.
Project Director/Evaluator, Boulder Valley Internet Project, an NSF sponsored change model. Examined a district model for the effective use of the Internet at administrative and instructional levels. Created a process evaluation that records the formation of the technical infrastructure, training of the professional and support staff, ongoing support over the Internet, and the creation of a databank of curriculum applications. The value of the model will be discussed in the final report.
Project Director/Evaluator, Creating Connections, a national program funded by Annenberg designed to promote communications between teachers, increase teacher access to resources and encourage the creation of curricula that use the capabilities of the Internet. Designed and conducted an evaluation that focused on the use of the Internet for teacher training and curriculum development.
Project Director/Evaluator, Project CONNECT, a division of the Colorado State Systemic Initiative. Lead evaluation of a systemic standards-based reform of science and mathematics education. Conducted a five year implementation evaluation.
Consultant, Services Integration for Children and their Families, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Paris, France. Created a dissemination plan for at risk case studies using the most recently developed educational technologies.
Project Director/Evaluator, RTAC Special Activity: The Use of Distance Education to Deliver Chapter 1 Services. Conducted a pilot study to explore the use of distance education as a means for delivering Chapter 1 services to rural schools. Helped local education agencies to design and deliver a Chapter 1 math class to third and fourth graders at rural schools in Kansas. Evaluated the project and disseminated the results. Assisted in follow-up programs.
Consultant, Arizona Distance Education Project. Trained teachers and evaluators for a staff development project using interactive television. Assisted this collaborative project between Flagstaff and Yuma in the use of the technology and experiential instruction.
State Service Coordinator, Region 5 Chapter 1 Rural Technical Assistance Center, RMC Research. Coordinates delivery of rural Chapter 1 technical assistance services in Colorado and Oklahoma. Supervises the distance education specialty activity. Designs and presents workshops on program improvement, long distance education, using computer technology in migrant education, integrating computers in math and reading curriculum, norm-referenced testing, whole language instruction, neglected or delinquent program evaluation, choosing software, parent involvement, and effective migrant education practices.
Trainer, National Geographic Corporation. Presented workshops nationally on "Project Zoo" and "The Weather Machine", demonstrating software that enables teachers to integrate more advanced skills instruction into math and science curriculum using software packages.
Consultant, Rocky Mountain Association of Computers in Education (RMACE). Conducted rural education needs assessment to determine priorities for training and dissemination of software packages for integrating more advanced math and science skills into the elementary curriculum.
Consultant, University of Colorado, Boulder. Conducted a needs assessment study of American schools in Mexico. Designed data collection instruments, conducted site visits, analyzed data and wrote the final report.
Mentor/Teacher, Denver Public Schools. Conducted workshops for teachers in curriculum and instruction topics such as computer-assisted instruction, integrating computers into the content areas, advanced thinking skills, cooperative learning, and classroom management. Served as a Chapter 1 reading specialist with responsibilities for program design, instructional delivery, and parent meetings for non-public school students.
