How Family Violence Hurts Children
Children represent our greatest hope for a violence-free future. We provide counseling and a nurturing environment for children who have experienced domestic violence, enabling them to manage the conflict in their lives through adulthood. Our relationship violence education will help build a new generation that is resistant to domestic violence.
Children who witness violence in their home:
- Do not have to be hit to feel the pain.
- May also be targets of physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse.
- May end up seriously injured or killed.
- May develop physical, mental, and emotional problems.
- May grow up to become the next generation of adult abusers and victims.
- May be unsuccessful in school because of delayed language development, acting out, or withdrawal.
- May feel hopeless, isolated, afraid and confused.
- May experience low self-esteem, chronic illnesses, and/or drug and alcohol problems.
